Chart 3. Typed Answer Key. Below is the answer to chart 3 (video above). The chart can be found at the bottom of the page.

Introduction (Identify what, where, when the data is about & the unit of measurement)

The data is shown as a table and a pie chart, which compare (in percentages) sales of different models of German cars from 2015 to 2016 and the share of the car market in Germany for 2016.

Overview  (Describe what you can see GENERALLY in the data - The GENERAL TREND)

Overall, it can clearly be seen that although only one American car, the Opel Astra, was ranked as a top selling car in Germany and German cars had mostly negative sales in 2016, more than half of cars (52%) sold in Germany were German manufactured.

Paragraph 1  (Contrast 2 or 3 main features / use some complex sentences of contrast)

In more detail, although the top four-ranking cars, which were all German made, for 2015 and 2016 had not changed, the Opel Astra had moved from 8th to 5th in car sales ranking with nearly a fifth (16.2%) increased sales. Notably, American cars had the second highest share of the German car market at just under a fifth (18%), which was double the share of Italian cars in third at nearly a tenth (9%).

Paragraph 2  (Contrast 2 or 3 MORE main features / use some complex sentences of contrast)

Moreover, sales in the German car market had slumped from 2015 to 2016: Not only did the top-selling car, the VW Golf lose over a tenth (12.9%) of its sales on the previous year, but sales of the second-highest ranking car, the VW Passat, declined considerably by nearly a fifth (17.1%). Interestingly, the most luxurious car, the Mercedes C-Klasse, had lost only 1% of sales between 2015 and 2016.   Band 9.
