For this example question, you are required to describe the industrial process of making paper. Unlike questions comparing data in tables, bar charts, line graphs, and pie charts there is no requirement to make comparisons of data and trends. Therefore, there is no need to quote dates or statistics (like percentages or dollars etc). Instead, the requirement with describing a process is to describe the process as a whole by describing individual steps in the process. To do this, you will use a combination of active and passive sentences and prepositional phrases.

The information is shown as a series of pictures, which illustrate the various stages in the industrial production of paper.
Overview: Summarise the process using continuous verbs.
Overall, in order to produce paper, it is necessary that a number of stages are completed, which include cutting down of trees, pulping, washing and bleaching of wooden pulp before drying and cutting rolled paper into paper sheets.
Body 1: Describe stages 1-5/ use Seq-words + passive (Subject-be-V3) + P/Phrases
In more detail, the first stage of the process of paper production is when trees are cut-down in the forests, and the smaller branches and leaves are discarded. The resultant timber is subsequently transported to an industrial saw mill, where the finest pieces of timber are sent to timber merchants for making wooden products. However, the smaller wooden chips are delivered to paper making mills where the larger knotted chips are removed as these are considered unsuitable for paper production. Eventually, the remaining chips are smashed into a wooden pulp.
Body 2: Describe stages 6-10/ use Seq-words + passive (Subject-be-V3) + P/Phrases
Once the pulp has been washed and bleached in an industrial washing machine, its impurities are removed and the refined pulp is then put into a drying chamber where moisture is extracted. The penultimate stage in the paper making process is when dry paper is rolled into sheets of newly produced paper rolls. Lastly, the paper is cut into smaller sheets then packed and delivered to retail outlets for sale. 20 mins / Band 9.
